Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early break points in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
